I got a copy of the letter of Michael Cholewa to the Nordic countries. Is it possible for you to place this quote of the letter on the Europe website? I have asked Michael’s permission for this.

I had a lengthy discussion with Rudy den Outer from Vintage Yachting Games a few days ago concerning the upcoming Vintage Regatta at Como in July, where the Europe class, as an old Olympic class, has been invited as well.

I think this regatta represents an excellent opportunity to activate some of the smaller E class countries, and I think it is important that the “big” E class countries share the responsibility to continue to grow the Europe Class by supporting all activities as much as we can.

My thinking is that we should try to make this event, the vintage games, even bigger and more prestige’s than the Worlds , where you, as a sailor, have the option to qualify through the backdoor (open week) and that “door” is really open. It is fairly easy to qualify to the Worlds, but the case about Vintage should be different. In Denmark we plan to give the 4 slots to our best sailors (top of ranking – 2 men/2 girls) and we plan to support them financially as well.

The Vintage Yachting Games Organization is a non-commercial joint venture of the following former Olympic Classes (Vintage Yachting Classes): Europe, 12’ Dinghy, O-Jolle, Flying Dutchman, Yngling, Tempest, Soling, Dragon and 5.5 Metre. Her supervisory board consists of the Presidents/Chairmen of above classes.
